About us

Nail Surgery

It is very common for our feet to function poorly and this can result in pain or injury in the foot, ankle, leg, knee, hip and even back.

Chiropody & Podiatry

Nearly everyone at some time will experience problems with their feet. Footworks Chiropdy & Podiatry offers a full range of treatments.

Biomechanics, Gait Analysis & Orthoses

Why have a biomechanical assessment/gait analysis?
When we walk or run our feet need to absorb the shock of hitting the ground but they must also be stable to support us as our body weight moves over the foot during each step.  Good foot function depends on how the foot interacts with the ground and how it is positioned relative to the leg and body.  How your muscles and joints further up the body work will influence how your feet function but your muscles and joints will also be affected by how your foot is functioning.  Poor foot function may result in injury, so assessing, and addressing, how you walk, or run, may help resolve pain or prevent injury.

What does an assessment involve?

A biomechanical examination is a 1 hour appointment involving an assessment of how your feet and legs work. We will look at your muscle strength and flexibility and you will be filmed walking, or running, using specialized equipment and you will walk over a pressure measurement plate.

What's the treatment following gait analysis?

It is possible that a programme of exercises and advice on footwear may be all that is necessary or you may also need an orthotic in your footwear to address your foot function.  Orthoses range from off the shelf, prefabricated insoles to custom made devices.  Footworks also specialise in the Richie brace ankle foot orthosis.

Conditions we treat include:
Heel and/or arch pain, plantar fasciitis, painful flat foot deformities, bunions, forefoot pain, Morton's neuroma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankle pain / sprains, achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, medial tibial stress syndrome, knee pain, illiotibial band syndrome (ITB), hip pain and low back pain.
